About Us

Network for Peace and Development (NEPED) is a Non-Governmental Organization with operations in Mandera, Garissa, Tana River, Wajir and Nairobi. The NGO is registered under section 10 of the Kenyan Non – Governmental Organization’s Coordination Act on 17th December 2020 vide Reg. number OP.218/051/20-64/11888. NEPED has been in operation as CBO since 2007 registered with Department of Gender and Social services in Mandera on 10/04/2007 Vide Registration No M/T/493/2007. NEPED has also registered with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NGO Coordination Board of Ethiopia and has opened its branch office in Mubarak Woreda of Dawa Zone.

The organization’s vision is of a democratic, just society and strengthened community systems to enable community members participate more effectively in policy and decision making platforms that are aimed at improving their standards of living.

Peace education and conflict resolution training aim to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge and skills necessary to foster understanding, promote dialogue, and effectively address conflicts while upholding principles of justice, accountability, and respect for human rights.

Advocacy for peace and justice

Advocacy for peace and justice involves raising awareness, promoting dialogue, and mobilizing support to address systemic injustices, promote reconciliation, and foster peaceful resolutions to conflicts, emphasizing the importance of upholding human rights, promoting social equity, and building inclusive societies based on principles of fairness, accountability, and respect for diversity.

Summary Achievements

  • Strengthened Cross border inter-Authority Relationship between Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia
  • Supported inter-authority meeting that led to building of strong covalent bonds between the cross border authorities
  • Enhanced capacity of the at-risk youth and linked over 100 youths to economic opportunities
  • Strengthened the capacity of the peace actors/networks to respond and mitigate cross-border conflicts
  • Developed and implemented rangeland management agreements among the pastoral communities
  • Empowered women leaders to advocate for women affairs in the county
  • Implemented several peace dividend projects to enhance community broken relationships through co-sharing and co-managing tangible infrastructures
  • Engaged religious leaders to counter narratives that are being used out of proportion by the radical groups and discourage vulnerable youth from falling into the trap of these groups
  • Established chiefs’ forum and engaged them in day-to-day networking to improve coordination and sharing of information, this intervention worked well
  • Strengthened coordination and networking among NEPED and county and Nation Government of Mandera
  • NEPED has been actively engaged in inter-communal peace dialogues and signing of peace agreements especially Garre-Degodia in Banisa
